This briefing examines the role of the five Central Asian nations – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – in the cooperation against terrorism. These country are at the center of a major diplomatic and military effort against terrorism after the terrorist attacks in New York 2001. The paper analyzes the domestic and international situation of each country and states that the changed role of the region will have an impact on its stability.
