This report addresses the state and development of Burundi’s fragile peace process in the background of suspended economic sanctions and the regional war in Congo. The paper provides information on the state of the Arusha peace negotiations with a focus on sanctions and current challenges. Subsequently, the paper reviews the state of the internal partnership for peace that is to lead Burundi into the post-war period and finds encouraging as well as discouraging sings. The paper stresses the importance of the war in Congo for the peace process in Burundi.
