This paper discusses the introduction of the Chinese insolvency law in 2007 and outlines the changes that stem from it. The author concludes that the new law means a significant improvement compared to the complicated and often contradictory legal environment of the past. He also concludes that it should be feared that after the new law has come into force, Chinese legal practice will have to compromise a lot with the difficult social realities of the country.
