This paper examines the potential military applications of China’s quantum science satellite (QSS) project. While making the QSS part of the purely scientific Strategic Priority Programme on Space Science may seem innocuous enough, the text’s author worries that the dual use experiments being conducted in the program will also lead to photon-based advances in quantum cryptography, military C2 and ISR systems, military sensors, and offensive strike capabilities. With tools such as these, and the deployment of a network of quantum satellites by 2030, China could gain space and information dominance over others in the not too distant future.
