This text contemplates the more prominent role the new Spanish government can play in the EU. The paper’s author argues that the previous ‘non-paper’ government had a largely negative impact on Spain’s regional influence, primarily because it was a caretaker regime that was unable to ratify political agreements or participate in state visits and summits. However, with the accession of the new government and the appointment of EU insider Alfonso Dastis as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Spain is now poised to regain its obvious place in the European project.
