This JEMIE issue focuses on minority issues across a broad range of topics. The articles specifically address 1) the differing policy approaches towards old and new minority languages, as illustrated by the UK’s translation policies; 2) the impact of Russian regime change on the country’s diversity management strategies; 3) the sources and nature of nationalism, which include emotional attachments, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and threat perceptions; and 4) the land and self-determination rights of the Sami people in Norway, Sweden and Finland.
