The first part of this paper addresses identity and conflict, presenting GM Tamás' views on the new nationalism and Samuel P Huntington's theses on the clash of civilizations. The second part introduces Robert Kaplan's remarks on the "coming anarchy" and Jessica Tuchman Tathews explores demographic and environmental developments. The paper argues that the task before the international community is to find ways of supporting the proponents of freedom, justice, order and peace.
