This text highlights how Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have both relied on the mislabeled concept of ‘tranquil power’ to promote their respective interests. Put another way, the two leaders have repeatedly relied on ‘gray’ and ‘black’ measures to spread disinformation and promote desirable narratives. Putin has been particularly guilty of these practices in order to tout Russia’s supposed great power status and obfuscate his interference in US elections.
