This paper assesses the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a regional security organization. It analyzes the organization’s qualities, strengths, weaknesses and effects. It concludes that the organization has made a real impact on the security of the wide territories it covers by succeeding in balancing Russia's and China's power within the group. The paper also looks at the motives and experiences of two SCO member - China and Russia.
