This policy brief explores the changing political landscape in Turkmenistan after the death of President Niyazov in December 2006. The author sketches the political history of the country, considers the likelihood of Turkmenistan diversifying its natural gas export options and concludes with 15 recommendations for the EU to deepen its engagement with Turkmenistan.
