This paper addresses the Russian-Algerian rapprochement in the gas industry and European fears of cartelization of the gas market as a result. The author examines the technical feasibility of a gas cartel as well as the stakes at play in the triadic relationship between Russia, Algeria and the EU. He argues that rumors about a "gas OPEC" are not only misled but also misleading.
