Publication

This paper is a research outline on the evolution of Islam and Muslim life in the Central Asian republics of the Soviet Union, focusing on Muslim identity and the interaction between Islam and the Soviet life and ideology. The paper comments on the existing literature on Central Asia, outlines findings from interviews with local sources and introduces how the research project is to develop further.
