This paper discusses the conflict over the Spratly Islands in Southeast Asia. The author argues that the conflict has shown signs of de-escalation and seeks to explain this development. The paper concludes that regional developments such as the lessening of the perception of China as a threat has contributed to the amelioration of diplomatic relations between the states involved in the conflict.
