This paper offers an overview of inter-state relations between Islamic and non-Islamic polities. The author describes three possible options that can be the basis of international relations for an Islamic polity: war, peace and neutrality. The paper concludes by rejecting the idea of perpetual war between Islamic and non-Islamic societies as argued by jihadist groups.
