This paper examines the interface between the UN and the private sector. The author argues that while traditionally international human rights standards have been the responsibility of governments, corporate actors are playing an increasing role at both the national and international level. The paper looks at the way the UN is considering the scope of the responsibilities of businesses and exploring ways in which corporate actors can be made accountable for the impact of their activities on human rights.
