This policy brief states that Western policies toward Hamas and Hizbollah have often hampered the quest for international peace, democracy and good governance as well as inter- and intra-state reconciliation. The author offers a comparative analysis of the impact of Western policies on some principal domestic and international dimensions of the Middle Eastern conundrum. The paper concludes that member states of the EU ought to give greater priority to its Middle Eastern interests alongside its trans-Atlantic priorities.
