This conference report covers the key protection and obligations for women and girls in armed opposition groups (AOG) under international humanitarian law and international human rights law. The report investigates the ways in which women enter into AOGs, analyzes how women experience empowerment in these groups and examines reasons and threats for girls under 18 years of age entering AOGs. Subsequently, the paper sheds light on key disarmament, demobilization and reintegration issues relevant for women and investigates into the potential gains and obstacles facing women within AOGs and those working with AOGs.
