This paper summarizes the results and proceedings of a workshop on "Mine Action in the Midst of Internal Conflict" that examined questions and strategies of mine action during an armed conflict. The paper presents case studies from Colombia, Sudan and Sri Lanka and discusses legal aspects of mine action. The paper summarizes that mine action is possible in the midst of war and armed dispute, must be done for humanitarian reasons, should be depoliticized and supports respect for the Mine Ban Treaty.
