This paper looks at the impact of the 2007 floods on Bangladesh, commenting on the humanitarian crisis, climate change and the long-term implications. The paper outlines the course of events, describes the existing relief efforts and assesses the related economic costs. The paper contrasts different relief options, points to the consequences of rising food prices and considers a changing monsoon pattern. It argues that Bangladesh can contain the 2007 disaster but needs to develop a long-term strategy.
