This paper argues that political spaces should be opened up to allow the existence of a moderate strand of political Islam. The author defines political Islam as the idea that the religion and politics are two inseparable parts. He argues that contextual understanding of Islam is one of its fundamental characteristics and goes on to refute absolutism in political Islam, applying it within the social setting of Singapore.
