This commentary examines the emerging global discourse on the use of 'smart' CCTVs to ensure homeland security. Given the recent proliferation of terrorist attacks, countries such as Germany and the US have announced plans to enhance their CCTV capacities at airports and train stations. As the text's author sees it, such a step should be accompanied by legislation that addresses the glaring privacy concerns this technology raises.
