This paper examines the direct and indirect impact Brexit might have on EU institutions. Although the latter will be able to accommodate the UK’s withdrawal by making few if any adjustments, the resignation of UK MEPs will have a major impact on the formation of majorities within the European Parliament. London’s departure may additionally open the door to changes in the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy and in the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
