This report examines state and development of Indonesia's Aceh province two years after the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) signed an agreement ending the province's independence struggle. The paper reviews the political developments since the peace agreement, points to problems involving ex-combatants and assesses the issue of reintegration. Subsequently, the paper sheds light on tensions with Jakarta. The paper states that Aceh-Jakarta relations are the key to lasting peace, yet there is still a vast difference in perceptions on both sides.
