This report assesses the security and political situation in southern Serbia's Presevo valley and the potential for spillover from the Kosovo status negotiations. The paper outlines the ethnic and administrative composition of the Presevo valley, discusses the local Albanian population's involvement in Serbian national politics and reviews the work of the Coordination Body. Subsequently, the paper comments on the political link between Kosovo and Presevo and points to outstanding issues. The paper argues that massive unemployment is the single largest problem of the region and underlines that Kosovo's final status might have serious implications.
