This paper analyzes the so-called Islamic State’s pivot to Asia, which includes its attempt to establish a “province” (wilayah) in the Southern Philippines. The text’s author argues that 1) the new wilayah will intensify jihadist activities in the region, and 2) Southeast Asian governments will need to enhance their diplomatic, military and economic cooperation against this burgeoning threat.
