This paper sheds light on the backgrounds and circumstances of the state of emergency declaration in Pakistan on 3 November 2007 by President General Musharraf. It comments on the clash between the executive and the judiciary as the primary reason for the state of emergency and points to related measures such as the suspension of fundamental civil rights. Furthermore, the paper reviews domestic and international reactions.
