This brief sheds light on the violent outbreaks in Nandigram, India, commenting on economic development and the ruling Left Front. The paper reviews the record of the ruling Communist Party (CPI(M)), discusses the stagnating development of West Bengal and criticizes plans for setting up special economic zones. The paper argues that the government should persuade the people of West Bengal that industrialization is good for their future.
