This brief introduces Benazir Bhutto and her Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as one of the political groupings relevant for Pakistan's parliamentary elections scheduled for 8 January 2008. The paper sheds light on Bhutto's personal background, outlines her record as Pakistan's prime minister and examines corruption charges brought up against her and her husband. The author argues that the PPP can be expected to be the largest or second-largest party in parliament.
