This brief introduces Nawaz Sharif and his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as one of the political groupings relevant for Pakistan's parliamentary elections scheduled for 8 January 2008. The paper sheds light on Sharif's background, comments on his record in politics and business and describes how he lost office due to a coup led by General Musharraf. The paper predicts that the PML-N will emerge in the elections as one of the three biggest parties.
