This report examines the aftermath of the 2007 Myanmar protests and outlines a way in which compromise might just possibly be reached. The paper reviews background and course of the protests, looks at the reactions from the UN, China, ASEAN, India, the US and the EU and identifies challenges for stability and development in Myanmar. Subsequently, it discusses possible ways forward and how the international community might contribute to it. It argues that the immediate challenge is to create a more durable negotiating process between the government, opposition and ethnic groups.
