This paper evaluates the performance of Bangladesh's army-backed caretaker government one year after its installation in January 2007. It introduces how and why the caretaker government came to power, discusses its attempts to start political and economic reforms and points to reasons for failure to deliver. The author argues that the government must not be distracted from its main objective of holding general elections.
