This brief assesses the vulnerability of India and South Asia to an economic downturn in the US and on the world market in general. It looks at the general growth outlook, discusses the vulnerability of developing countries to external shocks and examines regional export dependence. The author argues that the problem is with the structure of exports of South Asia which are heavily dependent on ready-made garments and regional concentration of export markets.
