This publication highlights 10 key landmarks and 30 key actors involved in the prevention of torture between 1977 and 2007. It focuses on the work of the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT). The author recounts the time period starting in 1970s, when only a few legal mechanisms were in place to stop the spread of torture, to the implementation of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture in 2006.
