This paper looks at the reasons behind Turkey's continued involvement in the Syria conflict. From 2011 to August 2016, Ankara focused on ousting the Assad regime. More recently, however, it has concentrated on blocking the gambits of PKK-affiliated Kurds and clearing common border areas of Islamic State militants. Basically, it appears that the political and financial costs of pursuing a regime change strategy became too high for the Turkish government.
