This paper examines the various ways in which EU member states helped respond to the refugees and migrants who attempted to enter Europe over the last five years. The text’s authors specifically highlight well-known efforts, such as Germany’s role in accepting refugees, to lesser known ones, including various countries’ financial contributions to humanitarian aid in Syria, and the use of the common Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). The paper’s authors also set out what must be done to craft a coherent Europe-wide response to the refugee crisis in the future.
