The articles in this SSQ issue focus on 1) why US nuclear policy must shift away from progressive reductions and towards the deterrence of enemies and the assurance of allies; 2) the role of nuclear-armed cruise missiles in US nuclear strategy, particularly the long-range standoff weapon; 3) how missile defenses support US nuclear deterrence; and 4) how the Trump administration’s Nuclear Posture Review provides an opportunity for the US to reexamine the fiscal and logistical challenges of its current nuclear weapons policy. The journal also includes an interview with General John E Hyten, six book reviews and more.
