This paper reviews the monetary policy of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as announced in its Annual Policy Statement on 29 April 2008. It comments on the high level of inflation in India, discusses factors that complicated the development of a sound monetary policy and comments on changes of industrial growth. The author states that the RBI is caught in a policy dilemma since it is trying to manage conflicting policy goals.
