This paper looks at the problems related to the formation of a working coalition government after Pakistan's parliamentary elections on 18 February 2008. It also examines the alleged Islamist threat in Pakistan and the fear of national disintegration. The author comments on the policies of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), criticizes the US for supporting the unpopular president General Pervez Musharraf and reviews the chances of an Islamist takeover.
