This paper addresses Bhutan's national elections on 24 March 2008 and the democratization process led by its king. It comments on the drafting of a new constitution, the history of calls for democracy and the electoral system's peculiarities. Subsequently, the paper outlines the election results and the resulting parliamentary composition and assesses criticisms that are based on ethnic concerns.
