This brief deals with the political relationship between Russia on the one hand and the EU and the US on the other. With new leadership taking over, the author argues that the time is ripe to transform the sad state of affairs between Russia and the West. He proposes a package of four initiatives. The initiatives deal with hypothetical NATO membership for Russia, a new treaty between the EU and Russia, NATO and EU membership for Ukraine and EU and US engagement in resolving the conflicts of the former Soviet area.
