This article assesses the popularity of Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez by analyzing news stories on the Chavez administration and discussing selected policy areas. It explains that the newspapers of seven Latin American countries have shown little sympathy toward Chavez' ideas, perceiving his leadership aspirations for the region and his announced renaissance of an updated socialism of Latin American coinage with skepticism.
