This brief presents the first results of the research project Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies: Supporting European Climate Policy (ADAM). The authors first set out the rationale for public policy related to adaptation to the impacts of climatic change in the EU. They then introduce some key issues around the concepts of adaptation policy and mainstreaming before elaborating on their preliminary analysis of the stakeholder engagement process. The final section discusses different concepts of uncertainties surrounding climate change and climate variability in the context of adaptation.
