This edition of the CTC focuses on 1) how jihadist groups like the so-called Islamic State fail to learn from their mistakes and undermine their own objectives in conflict; 2) the implications of Iran’s formalization and expansion of its Shi`a foreign fighter network; 3) the contest for the Fezzan region in Libya’s relentless conflict as well as its implications for the EU; 4) the rivalry between al-Shabaab and the so-called Islamic State in Somalia; and 5) Al-Shabaab improvised explosive device (IED) capabilities. The issue additionally features an interview with Dr Angela Misra from the Unity Offensive (TUI), a UK-based United Kingdom consultancy that focuses on rehabilitating individuals convicted of terrorist offenses.
