This report examines how social, generational, and demographic changes in the US and Israel are shifting the strategic perspectives of both countries. To help repair, redefine, and reinvigorate their partnership, this text’s authors present the following proposals: 1) reframe the bilateral relationship at a summit in early 2017 at Camp David; 2) enhance Israel’s sense of security and confidence in the US, primarily by committing to expanded missile defense, anti-tunnel, and cybersecurity cooperation; 3) move beyond the debate about the merits of the Iran nuclear agreement and work together to implement and enforce it; 4) develop detailed common understandings about how to contain Iranian’s hegemonic regional designs and then act on them; 5) agree to a set of specific, meaningful measures that Israel will take to improve the daily lives of Palestinians and preserve the prospects for a two-state solution; and 6) expand economic cooperation in multiple areas.
