This text examines German national debates on EU reform prior to the country´s 2017 federal elections. More specifically, the text´s author focuses on 1) how international political trends and developments - such as the surprising results of recent French, British and US elections - have influenced these debates 2) how the German political landscape has proved to be relatively immune to anti-EU populism; 3) calls for a stronger role for the EU on defense matters, and more.
