It’s pretty obvious that militias in Libya have to be assimilated and reintegrated into state structures. To facilitate the process, this paper examines 1) the necessary criteria for militia institutionalization and integration; 2) the primary candidates for the process; and 3) how the integration experience has progressed thus far, with a special emphasis on its challenges and obstacles.
