This paper argues that on several fronts, from Syria to Yemen, tensions between Iran and its foes are heightening. In this overheated atmosphere of mutual mistrust and demonization, the text’s author believes that even a miscalculation could easily plunge the region into further conflict. To prevent this from happening, the paper recommends that Iran’s adversaries must work to better understand what drives Iranian leaders, particularly their strong defensive impulse. Further, Iran must accept that others perceive its regional approach as an offensive one, and adjust its policies accordingly
