This report reviews the performance of the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), which the world body established to react to the virus' 2014-2016 outbreak in West Africa. As part of their investigation, the text’s authors focus on three fundamental questions – was the mission needed, was it properly structured, and did it deliver on its promises? They also provide eight lessons learned from the UNMEER experience, and ultimately contend that despite its shortcomings, the mission demonstrated the UN's ability to provide whole-of-system responses to dangerous crises.
