In this report, Alexander Vershbow and Philip Breedlove outline the findings of an Atlantic Council task force on US force posture and the adequacy of current American deployments in North Central Europe. Our authors highlight that despite US and NATO efforts, it is unlikely that Russian efforts to threaten and intimidate NATO members in North Central Europe will end soon. In response, the task force members recommend that that the US could, and should, significantly enhance its existing presence in the region to bolster deterrence and reinforce Alliance cohesion.
