This brief does indeed examine the applicability of law enforcement techniques used against gang warfare in the US to the radicalization of individuals into Islamic terrorist groups. More specifically, the text features a question and answer session with criminologist Heath Grant on 1) how criminal gangs recruit new members; 2) whether gang territories can be compared to a jihadist rump state; 3) the role which social media plays in gang activities; and 4) how the US has already ‘migrated’ its expertise in dealing with gang violence.
